Beraat Özçelik

After completing his PhD at Istanbul Technical University Food Engineering Department in 2000, Prof. Berat Özçelik continued his post-doctoral studies at Ohio State University, Food Science Department with a scholarship. He was appointed as Associate Professor in 2006 and Professor in 2012 at ITU Food Engineering Department.

Prof. Berat Özçelik is a full-time faculty member at Istanbul Technical University and served as Dean for 2 terms at ITU Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy and served 2 terms as Department Head and Rector’s Advisor at ITU Food Engineering Department.

Prof. Beraat Özçelik’s main work areas are the production of functional food, the extraction, characterization and purification of some bioactive components such as antioxidants and peptides from plant food wastes and/or plant foods, including their bioavailability with nano and micro encapsulation, and their use in the production of new products and nutritional supplements. He has also conducted studies on the application of sensory analysis on productions. He has over 100 international articles and magazine editorships in internationally respected journals, and he is the founder of a company named BIOACTIVE, which conducts research on functional food production at ITU Technokent.
